Certificate in Living And Working With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

When an individual is exposed to a traumatic situation, which is not experienced in normal day-to-day living, then PTSD can develop. It’s not just those who have been involved in a major disaster or war zone that develop this disorder. Emergency service personnel and the victims of more common events such as crime, sexual abuse, rape, bullying and accidents are also at high risk of becoming sufferers.

To help you understand the complexities of PTSD this distance learning course has been developed by one of Britain’s leading authorities on the subject – David Kinchin.

His approach to the subject is one of care and sensitivity, and includes the most current thinking on PTSD. On completion you will have a thorough insight into a complex condition, which is only just starting to be fully understood.

David Kinchin Course Author And PTSD Expert

David KinchinDavid Kinchin – author of three books and countless articles on PTSD – has written this course. His views on, and understanding of, this sensitive subject have evolved and developed in close compatibility with other experts in this field. David also runs courses on a variety of topics related to PTSD for the emergency services and other groups.

In 1990, David was diagnosed with PTSD after being severely beaten by a gang of drunken youths whilst on duty as a police officer. This diagnosis started an odyssey of research, which continues to this day.

David is now a qualified counsellor, working exclusively with clients who have been traumatised. He is a member of the Association of Christian Counsellors and the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists.

As you can see, David is well qualified – not only from personal experience but also by being at the forefront of the latest developments – to write a course that will help you grow your understanding of PTSD.

What The Experts Say

"Living and Working with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a comprehensive course that will increase students' knowledge and understanding of this complex subject. It is written in everyday language and is easy to follow. The author draws upon a wealth of personal experience to provide information that is sensible and useful to anyone who wishes to develop a better understanding of this condition and the impact that it has on individuals and their families. It will also enable students to understand what support and treatment is available."

Martin Owen – Counselling and Training Services (Western Europe)

Martin Owen spent over 40 years in the field of adult education and training, ending full time employment as the head of training for a large international charity working with the families and dependants of Armed Forces personnel. Now semi-retired, he works as a Consultant Trainer, Counsellor and Supervisor for the NHS and MOD. Martin has been closely involved in the development of support and treatment for those who experience traumatic events and is himself the author of a number of pamphlets on the subject.

"This is a very useful and comprehensive study guide to working with both adults and children who have experienced trauma. I would happily recommend this course to any of the counsellors who work in our centre in Dublin and feel that it provides an excellent learning base and resource for both sufferers and helpers alike. David's approach is practical and easy to read but also demonstrates a profound understanding of the subject."

Vicky McEvoy – Manager of Oasis Counselling Service, Dublin.
Oasis is a nationally and internationally recognised and accredited service for Dublin and surrounding areas. They counsel both adults and children. As well as managing Oasis Vicky also counsels, supervises and trains in Dublin, Belfast and Edinburgh.
